





After two years with the six-wheeler Tyrrell P34, in 1978 Tyrrell team returned to the conventional design. New Tyrrell 008 designed by Maurice Philippe used an aluminum monocoque, V8 Cosworth DFV engine, Hewland FGA 400 5-speed gearbox and Goodyear tyres. The car was driven by Patrick Depailler and F1 rookie Didier Pironi. Depailler managed to get several excellent races, including win at Monaco Grand Prix and several more podium finishes. In the final drivers’ standings Depailler was 5th with 34 points and Pironi 15th with 7 points.
