2002 Dallara IR-02 – Chevrolet Jaques Lazier

Team Menard was founded by John Menard Jr., an American billionaire businessman, and the founder and owner of Menards, a Midwestern chain of home improvement stores. Team raced in CART World Series in 1980–1995 and in Indy Racing League in 1996-2003. In the 2002 season the team used Dallara IR-02 chassis powered by Chevrolet Indy V8 engine. The cassis was third modification of the second generation Dallara IndyCar chassis introduced in 2000 (IR-00), referred as IR-02. Jaques Lazier, the younger brother of 1996 Indianapolis 500 champion Buddy Lazier and son of former Indy racer Bob Lazier, drove for the team in first four races of the season. He took 2nd place in the round 3 at Fontana Speedway, but seriously crashed in the next trace at Nazareth Speedway. Jacques was replaced by Raul Boesel for the Indy 500 and did not drive the rest of the season, due to injuries suffered in a crash at Nazareth.
