The team was founded by Bob Sparshott, a former engineer at Lotus who had worked with Jim Clark and Graham Hill, and John ‘Ace’ Woodington in Luton in 1972. BS raced in F1 in 1976 – 1978 using Surtees, March, and McLaren cars. In the 1977 season the team was renamed officially as Chesterfield Racing, according to sponsor, and run March 761 (in first part of the season) and McLaren M23B for American driver Brett Lunger. Lunger raced a lot in the US in sports cars and Formula 5000 before moving to F1, first, in 1975 with part-time drive with Hesketh. In 1977 Lunger did not score points in 3 races in March and 9 races in McLaren.
