Racing Champions was founded in 1989 by Bob Dods, Boyd Meyer (Racing Champions Inc, Glen Ellyn IL) and Peter Chung (Racing Champions LTD, HK). In 1980s-1990s Racing Champions manufactured a lot of IndyCars and NASCAR cars in 1:64 scale. In 1996 the company introduced its Mint line of non-racing vehicles. The company later changed its name to RC2 and was acquired by Takara Tomy in 2011. Now the brand belongs to Round 2 LLC and is a sister brand to Johnny Lightning and AutoWorld brands. 1:64 Indy cars were produced in ordinary more toy-like form and in more realistic Premier Edition.
